Why You May Want To Switch To Organic Tooth Products

There is one product that many seem to forget we use on a daily basis and never even think about switching to organic. We put toothpaste in our mouth twice a day, everything we put in our mouth could enter our bloodstream and damage our overall health.

If you haven't switched over from conventional toothpaste to organic and natural toothpaste you may want to consider it. Dangerous diseases coming from non-organic toothpaste include canker sores, cancer, and renal failure.

Some of the ingredients in conventional toothpaste include:

Sodium Laurel Sulfate

As a detergent found in shamoos, SLS is responsible for the foaming actions of many shampoos, soaps, and your toothpaste. The bad news is the chemical might cause skin irritation and eventually lead to recurring canker sores.

Fluoride

Known for fighting cavities, this conventional ingredient can already be found in tap water in the USA for that purpose. As a study suggests, overexposure to fluoride is toxic.

Triclosan

As an antimicrobial agent used for different purposes can be found in detergents, soaps, shampoos, and toothpaste.

The chemical has been shown to affect hormones ( particularly thyroid hormone, estrogen, and testasterone). It is also of concern for the endocrine system

Some other ingredients in non-organic toothpaste are :

1- Sodium Fluoride- Carcinogen

2- Carrageenan-known irritant

3- Propylene Glycol - active component used in antifreeze, paints, and enamels.

4- FD&C blue no. 1 - Linked to ADHD

5- Diethanolamine ( DEA)- High concerns of organ system toxicity , irritation, and cancer risk.

Like food, our motives for choosing organic toothpaste should be the same : To try to reduce artificial chemicals intake and keep our bodies healthier. As we all know we might swallow some toothpaste by accident, but not many people consider our skin also absorbs chemicals.

The saying that " everything we eat both causes and cures cancer" is not far from the truth.

The first and most important step is to always read the ingredients list and label information. If you see an ingredient you are not sure about, a quick search online will give you at least some basic information on how safe the ingredient is.
