Happy Sunday
.
- Today I wanted to share some tips with you how to prepare for your blood work .
.
- The most important factor is that you have to tell your health care provider of any medications you are on , including vitamins or supplements. Be as specific as you can.
For those who read my post on Instagram there are certain supplements such as biotin that can impact tests used to diagnose conditions such as : Thyroid disease , heart disease , anemia , and other hormonal diseases .
.
- Your doctor can advise you whether you should stop taking your supplements before an upcoming lab test . Most water soluble vitamins flush out of the body in 24-48 hours .
.
- If your doctor is testing your lipid panel , a 9-12 hours fasting may be required .
.
- Certain hormone tests such as cortisol, aldosterone, and renin require you to refrain from exercising the day before, lie down for 30 minutes before the test, and refrain from eating or drinking for 1 hour before the test.
.
-Tests to be done at a specific day or time. For instance, testosterone may be ordered as being drawn in the morning before 10 a.m., and progesterone should be tested on a specific day of a woman's menstrual cycle.
.
- Other factors that affect lab tests can include your diet , starvation, exercise, posture , smoking , menstrual cycle , and pregnancy.
.
- How often are lab tests wrong ? It’s nearly impossible for a test to be right 100% of the time . This is because so many factors can affect your final results .
.
- For the best accurate test results , make sure you always follow the directions of your doctor & that you are as honest to your doctor & the phlebotomist.
.
- I hope you find today’s tips helpful, and as always feel free to like & share .
