What is CoQ10 ?

Your cells use CoQ10 for growth and maintenance, and the levels decrease as you age. The levels of CoQ10 also have been found to be lower in people with certain conditions such as heart disease, diabetes , and cancer. Doctors usually recommend patients who have had a stroke, or are taking cholesterol medication to take CoQ10. Studies have also shown that taking CoQ10 also enhances male and female fertility and helps improve egg quality in woman over age 35. There are some newer studies in using QoQ10 for migraines and muscle soreness as well. One of the common side effects of CoQ10 is insomnia, it also might lower blood pressure, cause stomach upset, and loss of appetite. The recommended dose is usually 90-200mg/day. There have been reports that CoQ10 may make medications such as warfarin or plavix less effective at thinning the blood. So, if you take blood thinners, ask your provider before taking CoQ10. Again, with any over the counter supplements, you need to consult with your doctor or pharmacist, specially if you have certain medical conditions.
