Hair problems and solutions

Hair problems can be extremely frustrating and tough to deal with! Although healthy individuals can lose up to 100 hairs a day on top of their heads. The issues with your hair may be one isolated problem, but most commonly are a combination of related issues.

I will probably write few posts on this topic to make sure I am covering all aspects of hair health and problems. In today's post I will mention some health issues affecting hair problems, and in future posts I will dive into more details about each condition.

The following health issues can cause a number of hair problems such as hair thinning, brittle hair, premature graying and hair loss :

1- Lack of protein

2- A lack of vitamins and minerals

3- Iron deficiency

4- Dehydration

5- Stress

6- Thyroid issues

7- Pregnancy

8- Poor sleep

9- Autoimmune disorders

10- Low stomach acid and leaky gut ( Read more on leaky gut syndrome from my previous posts)

We can promote natural hair growth by eating a good hair loss diet .

There are five top foods for hair growth:

1- Nuts - Which contain omega-3 fatty acids, biotin, vitamin E and copper

2- Oysters- Rich in Zinc

3- Sweet potatoes- Contain : Omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, and vitamin A, B, C, K, and E )

4- Eggs - A good source of protein, plus biotin, other B vitamins, Zinc, Selenium, sulfur, and Iron

5- Spinach- Has iron, beta-carotene, folate, vitamin A and vitamin C.

In addition, latest research has shown low levels of vitamin D can cause hair loss. Vitamin D stimulates new hair follicle and when body doesn't have enough vitamin D, new hair growth can be stopped. Make sure you ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels, during your physical check up.

In my future posts, I will go into more details of which vitamins are needed for healthy hair growth. In the meanwhile don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions on this topic and my future posts on hair health.

Stay healthy and well. Dr. Naghmeh
