Collagen Improves Hair Health

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and helps make up tendons, ligaments, and your skin. Collagen is a major component of your skin, it strengthens the skin and benefits with elasticity and hydration.

Collagen offers a variety of health benefits, such as promoting healthy, strong hair. Collagen in daily supplements work in synergy with components like hyaluronic acid to support, moisturize and rebuild the structure of the dermis of the skin and the environment surrounding the follicle.

Collagen improves your hair in few ways such as :

1- Provides Amino Acids that can be used to build hair

2- Helps fight damage to hair follicles

3- May prevent hair thinning associated with aging

4- May help slow graying

You can add collagen to your diet through foods or supplements. Since it makes up the connective tissues of mammals, it is found in the skins, bones, and muscles of chicken, beef, pork, and fish.

In addition, eating foods high in vitamin C may boost your body's natural collagen production. Examples are : Oranges, bell peppers, brussele sprouts, and strawberries are excellent source.

According to current research, collagen supplements appear to be safe for most people.

However, some reports suggest that supplements may cause a lingering aftertaste, stomach discomfort, or heartburn.

The integrity of collagen is affected by both , the natural slowdown of collagen production and the accelerated breakdown of collagen from things like sun damage, alcohol, and excess sugar in our diet. So incorporation of a daily collagen supplement can also aid in hair regrowth, as hair health starts from the inside.

On top of the breakdown of collagen, hair loss specifically can also be caused by iron deficiency, auto-immune disease, low thyroid, and hormonal imbalances. In this case you have to be under the supervision of a healthcare provider to fix the root cause of hair loss.

In my future posts on hair health, I will also discuss the link between probiotics and hair growth.
