Can Turmeric prevent the flu ?

For those of you who have been following my page for a while, I am sure you have seen my previous posts on benefits of turmeric. But, today with everything that's going on around us with corona virus, I like to emphasize on the benefits of turmeric for protecting your immunity. Studies have shown that turmeric stimulates your immune system to fight drug resistance strains of the flu.

Turmeric is a very strong antioxidant , it is considered a herb that cleanses the whole body, especially the liver. Turmeric is used to support digestion, treat fever, infections, and inflammation.

Researchers at George Mason University have found that turmeric shows promise in combating certain viruses. Turmeric is safe for most people when consumed in amounts found in food.

Turmeric usually does not cause significant side effects. However, in one report a person who took very high amounts, over 1500mg twice daily, experienced a a dangerous abnormal heart rhythm.

Turmeric should be used with caution in people with iron deficiency. Also, stop using turmeric at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery, since turmeric might slow blood clotting and might cause extra bleeding during and after surgery.

Drugs that reduce stomach acid ( Tagamet, Pepcid, Nexium,.. etc ) : Turmeric may interfere with the actions of these drugs , increasing production of stomach acid.

The recommended turmeric dosage is between 500-2,000mg of curcumin per day.

As always, please consult with your doctor/pharmacist before starting any supplements. The content of my page is provided for informational/ and or educational purposes only. Nothing should be constructed as providing medical advise.
