Biotin is a B vitamin often recommended for hair health. Since biotin deficiency can lead to thinning of the hair, taking biotin supplements may actually halt this process and even help to reverse it. The general daily recommended dosage of biotin is 2.5mg (2,500mcg). Some foods that contain biotin include : Egg yolk, cauliflower, cheese, mushrooms, sweet potato and spinach.
An important factor to know is that biotin ingested in high levels can interfere with lab test results. It is highly recommended that patients stop taking high doses of biotin 72 hours before having blood drawn.
