Are Any Types Of Diets Really Anticancer?

Happy Monday, I hope all of you are doing well, and staying safe during this pandemic.

I like to step away from discussing Covid-19 today, and talk about another important topic such as cancer-prevention. Did you know that nearly 50% of the most common cancers can be prevented.

A study was conducted by by Dr. Donald. Abrams MD, UCSF Integrative Oncologist, to see if any types of diets such as Alkaline, Paleo, Ketogenic, Macrobiotic, Or Vegan are really Anticancer.

Cancer Diets Systematic Review:

- Diets evaluated : Alkaline, Raw, Macrobiotic, Budwig, Gerson, and Ketogenic

-"We did not find clinical evidence supporting any of the diets".

- Case reports and pre-clinical data point to potential harm of some of the diets.

- Conclusion : Oncologists should engage more in counseling patients on such diets.

According to Dr. Abrams, MD : The Ideal Anticancer Diet Is : Organic +Plant-based+Antioxidant Rich + Whole foods.

Standard Recommendations:

- Increase plant based foods : whole grains, Fruits and vegetables

- Decrease animal fats : decrease dairy, red and processed meats. Increase marine Omega-3's.

- Decrease refined carbohydrates : sugar, white flour, and white rice.

In addition :

- Season with : garlic, ginger, onions, turmeric

- Drink green tea and red wine

Some studies also suggest that vegetarians who also eat fish have even greater protection against colorectal cancers.

Let your food be your medicine and your medicine to be your food. Stay well and healthy. Dr. Naghmeh
