Learning How To Read A Sunscreen Label

As pharmacists we are always approached to consult on Health and Beauty items, based on experience, chemical ingredients, and what makes a product safe and approved.

While getting sun is actually good for you for a whole host of reasons- It is also super important to always wear sunscreen- no matter how cloudy it is. Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of the sun's harmful rays can penetrate your skin.

As you have read on my previous posts, you always want to stay away from chemical sunscreens.

Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients such as : oxybenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, triclosan, and fragrance. For example, oxybenzone, is a synthetic estrogen that penetrates the skin and can disturb the hormone system, and cause reproductive toxicity. Octinoxate- linked to endocrine disruption as well as reproductive toxicity.

You should lean toward physical or mineral sunscreen. They contain safe minerals such as : Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Familiarize yourself with how to read the back of that next sunscreen you will purchase. Also, another information is that sunscreens come in both spray and lotions forms. keep in mind that whatever you are spraying can easily get inhaled- so lotions really are much safer for you.

Some examples of safe and approved sunscreens are :

Stream2sea, california Baby, Earth mamma Organics, and Attitude.

It is a light tint, hydrating formula with SPF 30 sunscreen , 20% zinc oxide, all Vegan. Use my code "Naghmeh" to get 10% off their entire website.

I would love to hear from you if you have any specific questions, so please comment or DM here. Stay well and stay healthy. Dr. Naghmeh
